Changed line — what is it? A Changed line appears to match a moving line in the hexagram, and it acts only on the moving line that produced it, never on the other lines of the hexagram.
A Changed line appears to match a moving line in the hexagram; a changed line acts solely on the moving line that produced it, and does not act on the other lines of the hexagram.
The Six Relations of a changed line follow the primary hexagram
One point to note about the changed line is that the element of the branch of the changed line is matched against the primary hexagram. For example, if the changed line is Si Fire, and Fire in the primary hexagram is Siblings, then we write Si Fire Siblings, and not by the Six Relations of the changed hexagram.
Example: Revolution (Ge) moving at line 4, changing into After Completion (Ji Ji):
| Officer line | Wei Earth | |||||
| Parents | You Metal | |||||
| Siblings | Hai Water | Self | ○ | Parents · Shen Metal | ||
| Siblings | Hai Water | |||||
| Officer line | Chou Earth | |||||
| Offspring | Mao Wood | Resp. |
How a changed line acts on a moving line
A changed line is basically not acted upon by the Day and the Month, nor by the other lines of the hexagram. The ways a changed line acts on a moving line are:
- Changing into generation
- Changing into control
- Changing into the Tomb
- Changing into retreat
- Changing into advance
- Changing into a clash (Reversed repetition)
- Changing into a combination
- Changing into Birth
- Changing into Peak
- Changing into Extinction
- Changing into itself (Stagnant repetition)
