Six Relations (Liu Qin) — what is it? The Six Relations are the five roles Siblings, Offspring, Wealth, Officer and Parents; a hexagram refers them to the element of the palace it belongs to.
The Six Relations are the five roles Siblings (Xiong Di), Offspring (Zi Sun), Wealth (Qi Cai), Officer (Guan Gui) and Parents (Fu Mu).
Generation and control among the Six Relations
Siblings generate Offspring generate Wealth generate Officer generate Parents generate Siblings; Siblings control Wealth controls Parents control Offspring control Officer controls Siblings.

How the Six Relations are placed in a hexagram
Whichever palace a hexagram belongs to, the Six Relations are referred to the element of that palace, with Siblings sharing the element of the palace, after which they are matched with the elements of the Earthly Branches.
Example: in a hexagram of the Qian palace, Siblings take the Metal element, so every Metal branch in the hexagram is Siblings.
Example: in The Creative (Qian), line 5 is Shen Metal and is Siblings, because The Creative belongs to the Qian palace.
