Wealth and fortune — what is it? A Wealth and fortune hexagram attends to a few points: the Self line and the Target line, with no need to read the Response line.

Wealth Prosperous and Siblings

Basically, in reading for money, if Wealth is Prosperous the matter comes off; but if dangerous matters are involved the Self line has to be read as well. Otherwise it is enough that the Self line does not control Wealth: the Self line clashing Wealth or combining with Wealth are both all right.

Wealth Prosperous with Siblings entering the Tomb, or Void, both report that there will be money; but at the moment the Tomb is clashed, or the Void Siblings line is clashed or filled, it is lost. That is, there are two parts, having and losing: the timing at Wealth is having, and the appearance of Siblings is losing.

Timing

The timing points to note are:

Entering the Tomb: if Prosperous, wait for the clash of the Tomb and there will be money
Entering the Tomb: if Weak, at the clash of the Tomb it is lost
If money is needed urgently and Wealth enters the Tomb, then at the own branch or the clash of the Wealth line money is lost and not gained (in the case where it is needed urgently before the day the Tomb is clashed)
The same with Void
Month Break is read as though there were no Month Break; moving, it answers at the combination or the own branch of the Month Break (on condition that that Wealth line is Prosperous)
If the Wealth line moves and changes into Break, wait for the own branch or the combination of the Break line; if Wealth moves and changes into Void, the own branch or the clash of the Void line
If Siblings is Void, or moves and changes into Void, it answers at the own branch or the clash of the Void, and there is a loss
If the Wealth line is Prosperous and changes into control, then coinciding with Wealth is having, and the filling of the controlling line is not having
If Wealth is Prosperous, moves and changes into control, and the controlling line is Void or in Month Break, it answers at Wealth with money, while at the filling of the Void or Break line money is lost
If Wealth is Void or in Month Break and changes into control, it answers at the filling of the Void or the Break with money lost
If the Siblings line moves and changes into control, and the Siblings line is Void or in Month Break, it answers at the filling of the Siblings line with money gained
If the Siblings line moves and changes into control while the controlling line is Void or in Month Break, it answers at the Siblings line with money lost, and at the filling of the Void or Break with money gained
If the Tomb line of Siblings moves and changes into control while the controlling line is Void, then at the clash or the filling of the Void there will be money
If the Tomb line of Siblings changes into Void or Break, the Tomb does not count and it is judged as an ordinary moving line.
If the Tomb line of Wealth changes into control and the controlling line is Void, it answers at the clash or the filling of the Void with money gained
The same in the case of Month Break

Offspring moving

A moving Offspring line reports the source that generates money for one; wherever the source is, there the money is
If Offspring changes into control, one knows that after receiving this time there will be no more; don't hope for anything further
If Offspring changes into generation while Wealth is controlled by both the Day and the Month and is in Month Break, it answers at the clash of Offspring with much money lost, and the helper or the source of money is finished as well
If Offspring moves and generates Wealth but controls the Self line, then in a joint venture the partner harms one; if it is a source of money, the source of money harms one; and if it coincides with the Flying Serpent, dirty money harms one
If Offspring moves while Siblings sits on the Self line, one begs others for rescue but in vain; and if Wealth combines with the Self line, one gets it after all
If Offspring enters the Tomb, wait for the clash of the Tomb and there will be money
If Offspring is Void or in Break, wait for the filling and there will be money
If Offspring is at Extinction while Wealth is Prosperous, take Wealth as the standard for reading the timing

The Officer line moving

A moving Officer line reports outlay
Prosperous, the outlay is much; Weak, the outlay is little
Inner is a matter within the household; outer is a matter outside, in the street
A moving Officer line answers only to a Weak Wealth line for knowing the further damage; if Wealth is Prosperous, there is money but with outlay
The Officer line in the Tomb, or in Break, or Void, all report the moment of the filling with outlay, and do not report the timing of Wealth
If the Officer line moves with a moving Siblings line alongside, it signals that there is a danger, but that spending money in the right place will get one out of it
If the Officer line sits on the Self line, one squanders money oneself
If a Weak Officer line enters the Tomb and sits on the Self line, be careful of one's life at the clash of the Tomb
A special case, the Officer line at Hai changing into Offspring at Chen, is both changing into the Tomb and changing into Offspring controlling the Officer beside oneself: one meets misfortune but, with blessings as high as heaven, gets out of it
If the Officer line generates the Self line, the partner harms one and one loses more money; be careful of skimming. And if the Self line is too Weak, the partner takes control; both cases report a partner who flatters

Parents moving

A moving Parents line reports harm to the capital and harm to the source of money; in reading Wealth in particular, Parents plays the part of reporting: the last time, not very important. If Parents sits on the Self line, then Wealth controls it, reporting that money comes unexpectedly — don't go seeking it. Parents generating the Self line signals a robber, so focus on the characteristics of Parents to know it and avoid it.

Supporting information in a Wealth hexagram

Note the supporting information in a Wealth hexagram:

Generating the Self line or generating the Target line is a partner; the partners may be several, but the moving line that generates reports the most prominent one. Note how this moving line generates or controls the other line in the Self–Target pair, to know:
Generating the Self line and controlling Wealth: the partner cheats one and takes the money; and if Wealth is Void, Siblings is a thief. Siblings at Water with the Vermilion Bird is cheating by flattering words; Siblings at Fire is cheating by pressing; Siblings at Yin is cheating by playing the innocent; Siblings at Earth is cheating by seeming simple; Siblings at Metal is cheating by overbearing. The Hooked Array indicates a quiet or inward person, who looks full of unspoken things; the White Tiger a stubborn or fierce person with a domineering streak; the Black Tortoise a greedy, self-centred person; the Green Dragon a person easy-going and sociable with the outside world
Generating Wealth and controlling the Self line: if the asker is worried, it is the image of controlling the Officer beside oneself, so one gets through the coming trouble one is worried about — likewise the Officer line moving and changing into Offspring sitting on the Self line; that is a situation where there is an immediate worry. But if the person is in business over long days and wide months, Offspring controlling Officer and generating Wealth is the image of a partner harming one, or putting pressure on one; with the Flying Serpent added it reports heavy psychological pressure, and if the Self line is Weak it signals long-running depression, while a Weak element of the Self line reports symptoms of illness brought on indirectly by that psychological pressure.
The Self line controlling Wealth with Parents generating the Self line: loss into the capital, both a big loss and a heavy loss of capital; the more Prosperous Siblings is, the more is lost. This usually reports that the partner's thinking is grab-and-go and not for the long term, while one is oneself going the wrong way. If Wealth is Weak the market is useless; if Wealth is Prosperous the market has potential; and if Wealth is punished the market moves against the old trend
The Self line coinciding with Parents and the Officer line moving: the partner puts forward advice in the wrong direction, leading to a loss in costs. If the Officer line moves and changes into Wealth, there is a loss of initial costs in order to build for the long term; if Wealth is Weak, going on is useless and one should change direction; if Wealth is Prosperous the profit is still higher than the loss, but it is not durable and is grab-and-go, not for the long term, because Parents controls the Source line of Wealth
The Officer line moving without controlling the Self line and changing into Wealth reports reinvestment; if it controls the Self line it reports that a group is planning to kill one, and if it is Void it has not yet appeared

In the Wealth cases above, if the moving line is replaced by a frame, it reports a group of people; and if one branch within the frame is Void or in Break, it all reports that the matter will happen in the future.

The Day or the Month clashing Wealth, even while moving, all report money in small pieces; only where one clashes and one combines is this money in small pieces at one moment but able to be gathered up over a cycle ......

Business

As to business, it differs a little from wealth and fortune, although basically it is the same as reading the relation of the lines:

Business has three core points: the Self line, Wealth and the Response line; these three core points stand for health (or comfort) – money taken in – the number of customers
Through these three core points we can adjust so as to maximise the effect. As with not being happy: one knows why one is not happy — say the Self line is Wood and Weak, then yielding too much makes the business unhappy for one; Fire is being hasty and Earth is being slow... Besides, if it coincides with the Officer line, or is too Weak, then in the course of the business one may fall ill in a way connected with the element of the Self line. Note this.
The method of reading a business does not include the employees. To read the employees one must have a separate hexagram, and then Wealth is the Target line; it is not read all together. Then one need only compare the Self line and Wealth to know how the employee stands with one: Void is cheating, Weak is poor ability, controlling the Self line while Void is theft...
If the Response line is Void, there are no customers at the present moment; if it is Prosperous, go on as before and merely pump more into marketing; but if it is a true void one must change the way of approach at once. In this case Wealth reports the potential of the market: if Wealth is Weak there is no potential here — meaning the priority is still Wealth first, and where there is none, however much one does it is like salt thrown into the sea
To read a business in more detail one may also read the line hidden under the Self line: Wealth hidden reports stock on hand; Offspring hidden reports that a plan has been set and everything prepared; the Officer line hidden means one worries too much but can tell no one.
In reading a business, if there is a partner it will be shown at a moving line that generates the Self line, combines with the Self line or drains the Self line, or generates Wealth, combines with Wealth or drains Wealth. This showing does not include the case of a partner who is not honest, because a moving line is not judged for Void; but if it is in Break and changes into Extinction, the partner will certainly be short-lived, and if it is only at Extinction the partner will not last long, even if it is Prosperous — it still counts that way
In reading a venture, the greatest taboo is a moving Offspring line entering the Tomb or being controlled, which indicates that the source of money, however hard one tries, will end in ruin. The greatest taboo is a Weak Officer line sitting on the Self line, which will bring an illness hard to get through because of the business. It is a taboo for the Source line of the Self line to move and enter the Tomb or change into control, both being images of a short life; while a moving Hostile line only reports weariness of life, which is much less bad. If Offspring changes into the Officer line, or the Officer line changes into Offspring, note the branch of the Officer line for anyone who already has a child: it reports that at that moment of timing the child's life is in danger — the moment being the branch of the Officer line in the ordinary case, or the timing with a special state — and according to inner or outer one knows where to avoid.
It is a taboo for the Self line to be Weak with Wealth controlling the Self line: a grave illness will surely arise from the pressure of money, and too Weak is very dangerous, while Resting–Confined only reports that there is an illness
A point of difference between reading Wealth and reading business is this: in reading Wealth one welcomes being controlled by Wealth, while in business it is a taboo for Wealth to come and control, since over long days and wide months one is both worn out and loses the peace
